Winter Reading List
I’m really, REALLY not a huge fan of Winter. I love peppermint mochas as much as the next person but I could stand to go without the frigid temperatures, the slushy, dirty snow and slick roads. I’ve been learning a little bit about the Danish concept of Hygge (pronounced Hoo-gah), which, in a nutshell, involves feelings of comfort and contentment found when enjoying life’s simple pleasures. Take the word cozy and turn it into an entire lifestyle - that’s Hygge. Think candles, fire places, soft and snuggly blankets and of course, a good book.
I opted to make more time for reading and writing as part of my goals for 2019 so I thought I’d draft up a winter reading list to share so you can start living your Hygge life too. Grab your fave mug, some snuggly socks and get reading!
I’ve watched snippets of Fixer Upper and really enjoy the dynamic between Chip and Joanna. With a relatively blank slate in our new home, I think this will be the perfect inspiration to turn our home into something beautiful AND liveable.
I listened to Michelle Obama on Oprah’s Super Soul Conversations podcast and I loved her story telling. Oprah read some of her favourite quotes from the book and I added it to my ‘to-read’ list right away!
Ever since reading Tuesdays With Morrie, I have LOVED everything written by Mitch Albom. The prequel to this book (The Five People You Meet in Heaven) was incredibly moving and attention grabbing so I can’t wait to sink my teeth into this one.
This one was recommended by my good friend who has impeccable taste in books so I KNOW it’s going to be an awesome read. Set during World War II, it sounds like an endearing yet exciting read.
Have you read any of the books on my list?! Let me know how you liked them by leaving a comment below.
And happy hygge-ing!
