Thursday Night Sangria Recipe
I was introduced to sangria a few years ago by my friend Nicole when we were hanging out in my parent’s basement. I’m not a ‘wine person’ so admittedly, I was skeptical. Nicole whipped up a batch of boozy fruity deliciousness, and I’ve been about it ever since. In fact, sangria may even replace the Bellini as my patio season staple.
Arguably, it doesn't get better than a pitcher of sangria on a sunny summer afternoon, shared among friends. But therein lies the problem… what about the times I’d love a glass but can’t finish a full pitcher; it’s a shame to waste it and dangerous to polish it off on your own, especially on a work night. Enter Thursday Night Sangria. A recipe perfected for ‘just one’ - enough zip to take the edge off, yet light enough to wake up on time Friday morning.
0.5 to 1 oz. vodka (omit to make Monday Night Sangria)
3 to 4 oz. orange juice (adjust to your taste)
8 oz. white wine (I used a Pinot Grigio but I’m also a fan of Reisling)
2 (or so) strawberries (frozen is fine)
½ of a peach
Splash or two of Sprite/Club Soda
Slice strawberries and peaches, place half into a wine glass
Add vodka to glass and stir, let sit for at least 5 minutes if possible
Using a fork, mash the vodka-soaked fruit to break it up
Add orange juice and wine, a few ice cubes and the rest of the fruit slices
Top with a splash of Sprite (to add some sweetness) or club soda (for the fizz without the sugar)
Give a quick stir, and enjoy!
