Library Tour

One of the things that I was most excited about when we bought our house was the little bedroom that I planned to turn into a mini library. I’ve been an avid reader since I received my first book (Sam Learns to Cook) 20 or so years ago. I transitioned from the Dr. Seuss book club to Young Adult novels including work by Ellen Hopkins and the Nancy Drew series. My literary interests developed further still and I became enchanted by the writing of Mitch Albom, James Frey, Cheryl Strayed and a list that goes on and on.

Now onto the tour!

We wanted to be able to use the space as a guest room, as well as a TV room/library, but because of the narrow space it was difficult to find the perfect day bed or futon. We FINALLY found something that was perfect (for the space and the purse strings) on Wayfair. The futon is sleek enough so as not to be overbearing in our space and it’s easy to turn into a bed and comfortable enough lounge on while watching TV.

The second element that was on my wish list was a large wall-to-wall shelving unit. Scouring Pinterest, I found some ideas and pitched my vision to the roommate. After some discussion, we decided to use gas pipe and 2x10s to create a rustic-industrial look. I was in charge of sanding and staining the wood and the roommate mounted the pipe and shelves.

The last step to pull it all together was the addition of my book collection and some knick knacks and photos. If you know me, you know that I’m hyper-organized and slightly neurotic when it comes to having a place for every item. I’ve grouped my textbooks and cookbooks together but as surprising as it may be, I kind of winged the rest and it's a bit of an organized chaos.

The space isn’t quite finished but Rome wasn’t built in a day.
