Cinco de Mayo: Guacamole Recipe

In a world where we are perpetually reminded that guac is extra, I present to you the most delicious guacamole recipe ever so that you can make this dandy dip AT HOME! And what better way to celebrate Cinco de Mayo than by making enough guac for at least 4 burritos (one if you’re my sister - hey Girl!).

A few notes before we begin:

  • You can omit the jalapeno or add a bit more depending on your personal taste
  • Roughly chopping the onions and tomatoes creates a more textured dip while dicing them finely creates a smooth dip
  • Once you’ve completed the recipe, cover with a lid or plastic wrap IMMEDIATELY

And without further adieu, here’s the goods…

  • 3 avocados, halved, and scooped from peel with pit removed
  • Juice from one lime
  • ½ tsp kosher salt
  • ½ tsp ground cumin
  • ½ tsp cayenne pepper
  • ½ medium red onion, diced
  • ½ jalapeno pepper, seeded and minced
  • 2 Roma tomatoes, seeded and diced
  • 1 tbsp fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, minced

  1. In a large bowl, toss avocado with lime juice
  2. Add salt, cumin, cayenne pepper and mash until desired consistency is achieved (a potato masher works wonders here)
  3. Fold in onion, tomato, cilantro and garlic
  4. Let sit for 1 hour at room temperature and then serve
  5. OR store in airtight container until serving

Serve with tortilla chips, on a burrito or just eat it with a spoon.
